Charge and Designation


A. Charge

To ensure fairness, equal access to justice, and effective implementation of stated policies in the Judicial Branch against discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status, the Vermont Supreme Court hereby establishes the Committee on Fairness and Equal Access to Justice. The Committee is charged with:

(1) monitoring fairness, access to justice and the existence of bias in the Vermont Judicial Branch and making appropriate recommendations to the Supreme Court, including recommendations for a readily accessible grievance system, to address concerns;

(2) advising management on programs and protocols for education and training efforts to assure equal access to the courts and to promote cultural diversity in the Judicial Branch; and

(3) making other appropriate recommendations from time to time to the Supreme Court and the Court Administrator for actions to ensure fairness and equal access to justice in the courts.

B. Designation

The Supreme Court hereby appoints to the Committee on Fairness and Equal Access to Justice Committee the following persons:

C. Expenses

In the performance of their duties, the non-Judicial Branch members of the Committee shall be reimbursed for reasonable and necessary expenses and shall receive per diem compensation of fifty dollars. The Judicial Branch members shall be reimbursed the normal state employee expenses. The Commissioner of Finance and Management shall pay from the judicial appropriation all expenses of the Committee when claims are submitted on proper vouchers approved by the Court Administrator or his designee.
