| JURY POLICY COMMITTEE |
| This 19 person committee is charged with examining the current rules
and policies governing the operation of juries as related to their ability
to fairly and accurately discharge their function in the justice system,
including studying policy and procedure employed in other states,
willingness of jurors to serve, juror orientation, treatment of jurors,
use of juror time, juror safety and privacy, juror understanding of
evidence and proceedings during the trial, juror's ability to ask
questions of the judge, lawyers or witnesses, jury instructions before
trial, during the presentation of evidence, and after the close of the
evidence, juror deliberation and juror responsibilities and rights after
the verdict. The Committee is also charged with recommending changes in
juror policies and procedures based on its study and shall specifically
examine and recommend whether Vermont should implement pattern jury
instructions or standards for the drafting of jury instructions.
