COURT TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
The 11 member committee oversees all computer system development. It plays the central role in setting priorities for the use of information technology throughout the Judiciary including personal computers and applications, network infrastructure and security, the trial court case management system and other court applications, and the development of new technologies such as electronic filing and access to electronic records.

In the fall of 1998, the Committee developed, and the Supreme Court adopted, a vision of the use of technology in the Judiciary. [Hypertext to Technology Report]. The primary components are:

  • maintaining and enhancing the case management systems in use in the trial courts today, called VTADS (Vermont Automated Docketing System);
  • making electronic filing and litigation a reality;
  • developing a flexible, user friendly, case management information system with appropriate on-line access to both case and case management information; and
  • providing electronic tools for word processing, electronic research, communication, scheduling and the like to judges and staff.

Since then a large number of projects have been undertaken to pursue these goals, including replacement of dumb terminals with personal computers and developing a statewide support system, implementing a computer network throughout the Judiciary, the development of a data warehouse, an electronic case file pilot project, and ongoing efforts to coordinate the integration of criminal justice information systems. A summary of these projects can be found in the State of Vermont 5 Year Information Technology Plan, February, 2001.

The chair of the committee is:
