All parties representing themselves (pro se) are ordered by the court to attend a Pro Se Litigant Education Program before they appear in court to pursue their claims (EXCEPT attendance is not a prerequisite for hearings on relief from abuse petitions or child support hearings). One-hour programs are held each month and are conducted by an attorney who regularly practices in the Family Court. The purpose is to educate litigants about the following: their responsibilities while representing themselves, courtroom etiquette and general procedures affecting family cases, and services available through outside agencies to help with problems affecting families. Anyone may attend, whether are not they are party to a pending case. Classes are free and open to the public.
