Peace Officers Memorial Day

President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation in 1962 designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Flags across Vermont will fly at half-mast in honor of those Vermont officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Vermont. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Washington, D.C. features the names of more than 19,000 law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
